Subject: Bannockburn Citizens Association Meeting/Recent Auto Incidents
Date Sent: December 2, 2011

Meeting.  At our BCA meeting last night, we had another good discussion concerning neighborhood security.  Committee co-chair Ian Greathead presented a number of ideas that the Neighborhood Security Committee will be considering.  Co-chair John Hanula and a number of neighbors also offered their perspectives.  We also had good reports from Edith Miles (Good Neighbors Committee), John Noble (the Banner newsletter), and Dwight Mason (Covenants Committee).

Dues for 2012 are due on January 1.  You can pay via PayPal on our website, or you can send your check for $30 (or more) payable to Bannockburn Citizens Association to Bonnie Garrett, BCA Treasurer, 6604 Broxburn Drive, Bethesda, MD 20817.

Vehicle thefts.  I regret to report that last night airbags were stolen from vehicles parked at three homes on East Halbert Road and Crathie Lane, which are on the southeast side of Wilson Lane. All three vehicles were Honda Odysseys and were variously parked on the street and in a driveway.  The county police have taken fingerprints.  The police reportedly told one of the victims that Honda airbags were valuable and stealing them was common.  Police advise neighbors to keep vehicles locked and in a garage.

What can we do?  If you see anything that appears suspicious, call the county police at  (301) 279-8000.  Please mention you are calling because the community has had several thefts recently.  If you see an incident in progress, call 911.

Encourage your neighbors to register on the BCA website and provide their current e-mail address, which is the only way that our neighbors can receive these e-mail alerts.  You can also help by cooperating with your neighbors to keep an eye on each other’s homes.  Talk to your BCA block captain; they are listed on our website.

There is no silver bullet, but we have the best opportunity to avoid these kinds of incidents by working together and with the police.

Best wishes for the holidays and the New Year.

Ted Garrett
BCA President
