Subject: Recent Incidents, Committee Activities, Booze Creek, BCA Dues
Date Sent: February 3, 2012

I hope you are enjoying the nice weather we are having.  Unfortunately, I have less cheerful news to report.

Recent Incidents.  On Friday evening, January 27, a home under renovation on Wilson Lane, just up from Macarthur, was entered unlawfully.  A neighbor saw the person leave through the front door.  The neighbor chased but lost him in the woods across the street.  He was described a white male, around 30 years old, carrying a backpack.  He stole the builder's nail gun and some beer and food from the garage.

On Sunday, January 29, loose change was stolen from 2 cars in a neighbor’s driveway on Crail Drive, probably between 10pm and 5am.  The theft was discovered the following morning when our neighbor opened his car and saw that the contents of the glove compartments and center consoles had been littered over the front seats.  Two other cars on Crail were reportedly entered.  On the same night, a neighbor’s unlocked car on Arandale Road was ransacked, with glove compartment open and contents  spread around along with the CDs.  Nothing was taken.

This is a good reminder that we need to remain vigilant and report suspicious behavior to the police non-emergency number, (301) 279-8000 or 911 in an emergency.  Also, let me know so I can pass the information along to our Neighborhood Security Committee and other neighbors.

Neighborhood Security Committee.  Our BCA neighborhood security committee met on January 30.  Six of our neighbors participated.  Some of their first items of business are compiling home security tips from various sources, which will then be posted on our BCA website. The committee is also contacting all the block captains to get a committed and updated list to be followed by messages to send their blocks and communications from block captains to let the committee know of developments relating to security on their block.  If you have questions or suggestions or wish to help the committee, you can contact committee co-chairs Ian Greathead and John Hanula or yours truly.

Booze Creek update.  The Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is performing stream restoration efforts in the Booze Creek tributary of Cabin John Creek. The project was scheduled to be complete this spring.  However, DEP is stopping work while

the Washington Suburban does work to update pipes and infrastructure.  This work should be complete by March 1.  DEP will not resume work until June because the stream will be closed to construction in order to prevent interference with fish spawning.  During this time the contractors may be planting trees and shrubs. The new date for project completion is Fall 2012.

Dues.  BCA dues for 2012 were due on January 1.  You can pay via PayPal on our website, or you can send your check for $30 (or more) payable to Bannockburn Citizens Association to Bonnie Garrett, BCA Treasurer, 6604 Broxburn Drive, Bethesda, MD 20817. Our website address is:  http://bannockburncitizens.org

Next meeting.  I will announce the date and agenda for our March meeting in due course.  Stay tuned.

Best regards,
Ted Garrett President,
Bannockburn Citizens Association
