Subject: Bannock Burn Citizens Association: Festival, Luncheon, Speed Camera, Incident
Date Sent: October 17, 2012

Fall Festival.  On Sunday we had a wonderful Fall Festival. We had spectacular weather and a happy crowd of neighbors who enjoyed the festivities and a chance to visit.  Thanks to our Festival committee, we had abundant food for everyone and pumpkins and supplies for the children to use in decorating pumpkins.  We had another great dog show with participants and viewers alike enjoying it immensely.  The face painter was terrific and stayed overtime to handle the crowd.  Special thanks to Bonnie Garrett, Rebecca Kahlenberg, John Noble, Jo Roberts, Karen Lesser and Stephanie Posner.

Luncheon.  The BCA Good Neighbors Committee is sponsoring a lunch for BCA seniors on Thursday,  November 1, 2012 at 1 pm at the Hunters Inn, 10123 River Road Potomac Md.  We have reserved a private room at the hunters Inn so that we can circulate and talk to each other. We will order individually from a menu that includes soup and salad, salad entrees, sandwiches, and entrees. Please let Edith Miles (301-320-3299; ewmiles@comcast.net) know whether you can attend and whether you need transportation. This is a good chance to get to know your neighbors.

Speed Camera.  I am informed today that the County has fulfilled its promise, and a speed camera is now located on the south side of the 7000 block of Wilson Lane.

Recent burglary.  I received the following incident report from the County police.  A residential burglary, forced entry, on Monday October 15 between 7:30 am and 3 pm at the 6000 block of Massachusetts Avenue near Onondaga Road.  The burglars used a pry bar in an attempt to enter the rear sliding glass door.  When this failed they simply smashed the door glass and entered. The suspects are  two black males, one described as 30, 5/9’-6/0’, 190 lbs, medium build, medium dark complexion with a beard and wearing a dark jacket.  The other suspect was described as 40, 5/9’-6/0’.  Once inside, the suspects ransacked the home.  After taking items, the suspects fled the home carrying white bags – possibly pillowcases and exiting the back yard towards Onondaga Road.  Anyone with any information about this incident or these individuals is asked to contact the Bethesda Investigative Section 301 657-0112.  Please immediately report all suspicious activity to 301 279-8000 or 911 in an emergency.

Our Neighborhood Security Committee continues to monitor these developments and to discuss issues and measures with our block captains.

December meeting.  Our year end meeting will be on December 6, 2012 at 7:30 pm.  Details later.

Best wishes,
Ted Garrett, President
Bannockburn Citizens Association
