Halloween Tips
Halloween is supposed to be a time of carefree enjoyment and excitement for our children. The following hints are offered by the County Police to help ensure that you and your children have a safe and enjoyable Halloween.
- Be certain someone is home to greet little ghosts and goblins.
- Light up the outside of your home.
- Always lock doors and look out to see who is there before opening the door.
- Safely store all porch, lawn, and patio furniture.
- Lock outside sheds and garages.
- Put the family pet in a safe place.
- Park your car in a safe, secure place.
- Lock it and remove all valuables.
- Consider having a house party for your children to avoid their need to be out on Halloween night.
The following are suggestions for parents of children who go out on Halloween
- If children go out, take them and supervise their activity.
- Be certain your child is able to see and breathe properly if wearing a mask.
- Costume length should be such that your child does not trip on it while walking.
- If your child is out after dark, pieces of reflector tape on the costume will enhance the visibility of your child.
- Talk with your children about traffic safety before going out for the evening.
- Be sure they cross only at corners and do not cross between parked cars.
- When trick or treating, stay in your own neighborhood.
- Instruct children not to eat any treats until they have been taken home and inspected.
- Children should be encouraged to respect other people's property and should also be reminded to say thank you when given a treat.
- Make sure you have a charged cell phone.
