Subject: December 3 BCA Meeting with acclaimed writer Alice McDermott
Date Sent: November 12, 2015

Please join us at our next Bannockburn Citizens Association meeting on Thursday, December 3 at 7:30 PM at St. Mark. This is a meeting not to be missed.

This will be our year-end meeting featuring holiday cheer with eggnog, coffee and cookies. We particularly would like to welcome our new neighbors.

Our featured speaker will be Bannockburn neighbor Alice McDermott, one of America's most acclaimed writers. She won the National Book Award in 1998 for "Charming Billy," the tale of an Irish-American community mourning a lovable but tragic rogue. Her 1987 novel "That Night," was a finalist for the Pen/Faulkner Award and the Pulitzer Prize. A film version of "That Night" was produced by Warner Bros. in 1992. "At Weddings and Wakes" (1992) became a New York Times bestseller and was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize. Her 2013 novel "Someone," about a woman living in Brooklyn around the time of World War II, was a finalist for the National Book Award for fiction. Ms. McDermott's other books include "Child of My Heart" and "After This," which was also a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize. We very much look forward to Judith's remarks.

If you were pondering what book to read next or to give someone as a holiday present, look no further.

As always, the meeting will be an opportunity to visit with your neighbors, discuss BCA activities, hear reports from our Committees, and pass along news and comments. We would particularly like to welcome new neighbors.

I look forward to seeing you on December 3.

Best Wishes,
Ted Garrett,
BCA President
