Subject: September 1 BCA Meeting Featuring Rep. Henry Waxman
Date Sent: August 23, 2016
Please join us at our next Bannockburn Citizens Association meeting on Thursday, September 1 at 7:30 PM at St. Mark.
Congressman Henry Waxman will be our featured speaker. President Barack Obama called him "one of the most accomplished legislators of his or any era." I am confident that Rep. Waxman will have captivating and insightful comments about his years in Congress and the current political scene.
Representative Waxman represented California's 30th Congressional District. A widely admired leader on health and environmental issues, from 1979 to 1994, he chaired the Energy and Commerce Committee's Subcommittee on Health and the Environment, and in January 2009, Rep. Waxman became the Chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee. From 2007-2009, Rep. Waxman served as Chairman of the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, and from 1997 to 2006, he served as Ranking Member of the Committee. He was instrumental in passing numerous laws including the Clean Air Act of 1990, the Food Quality Protection Act of 1996, the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act of 2009 and the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010. He now serves as Chairman at Waxman Strategies, a DC-based communications and government relations firm, working on health care, environment, and telecommunications issues. He also serves as an advisor and lecturer at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
This is a meeting not to be missed!
As always, the meeting will be an opportunity to visit with your neighbors, discuss BCA activities, hear reports from our Committees, and pass along news and comments. We would particularly like to welcome new neighbors.
I look forward to seeing you next Thursday.
